Xingyi

Xingyi Quan, built on the Five Elements and the Twelve Animals. The center describes it as direct and practical, restoring vitality and full-body strength.

What it is

Xing Yi Quan ('Form and Intention Fist') is one of the three well-known Chinese internal martial arts, along with Taiji Quan and Bagua Zhang. [his sites] It is built on five basic striking methods (chopping, pounding/crushing, drilling, cannon and crossing) tied to the five elements, and on forms that mimic the fighting techniques of twelve animals. [his sites] He trained Xingyi on Wudang Mountain from his second year there, and it became one of his specialties once he was made a coach. [his sites]

How he teaches

In 2026 he devoted his whole workshop series to Xingyi and Bagua: monthly in-person weekends at Xuan Ju (Saturday is Xingyi) and a live Zoom class every Thursday evening. His Xingyi video series opens with zhan zhuang (standing practice) and footwork drills before the five element striking methods. [his sites]

The Twelve Animals — where his videos exist

Xing Yi Quan also contains forms that mimic the fighting techniques of animals; the original ten were later joined by two more, making twelve.

Animals are shown only where a video of his is titled for them. The full list of twelve is still being confirmed.
